A Message from Our New President: Access, Equity, and the Future of Learning

When I joined Playaway Products in 2013, I was drawn to a simple but powerful idea: everyone should have equal access to stories, knowledge, and learning. Twelve years later, that commitment has only grown stronger. As I step into the role of President, I want to share how our mission of access and equity continues to guide everything we do, and why your partnership is at the heart of it.

Why Access Matters More Than Ever

We live in an age where digital content is everywhere, but not always available to everyone. For many families and students, reliable internet access is still a barrier. Devices aren’t evenly distributed, and subscription models can limit who gets to read, learn, or listen.

Even for those with access, there is growing demand for safe, curated content. In a world of constant digital noise, families, educators, and librarians are looking for trusted formats that cut through distractions and deliver focused, meaningful experiences.

As a parent, I know how important this is. Families want choices that let kids explore without worry. Safe, curated content builds confidence for parents and trust for learners.

That is why libraries and schools remain so vital. They are spaces where access isn’t determined by income or circumstance—where equity means everyone can explore, imagine, and grow. We see it as our responsibility to support that mission with circulation-ready formats that are simple, barrier-free, and built to last. Whether through an audiobook, a learning tablet, or a read-along, our goal is the same: to give every person the ability to access great content anytime, anywhere.

Innovation Through Listening

Our best ideas don’t start in our conference rooms. They start with you.

Playaway audiobooks, now celebrating 20 years, took off when libraries asked for the format. Wonderbook paired print with audio to help kids build literacy while staying engaged with the book. Launchpad was created after educators asked for safe, offline learning tools. WhaZoodle, our newest format, came from libraries looking for a playful, community-friendly way to circulate audio.

In each case, we didn’t just launch a product—we answered a need expressed by people serving their communities. Listening, collaborating, and creating together is the blueprint that guides us.

A Partner in Your Mission

Our role is bigger than delivering products. We are your partner. That means making sure libraries and schools remain places where equity lives in action. It means creating tools and resources that make your job easier and sourcing the world’s best content so you can inspire and delight your communities.

We know the challenges you face with tighter budgets, shifting expectations, pressure to serve more people with fewer resources, and growing challenges to the freedom to read. But we also know the extraordinary impact libraries and schools achieve when those challenges are met with creativity and resilience. Our commitment is to stand with you—providing technology, insight, partnership, and support.

Looking Ahead

As I begin this new chapter as President, my vision is rooted in the same principles that have guided Playaway Products from the beginning: access, equity, and innovation. With your partnership, we will continue to break down barriers, strengthen connections, and keep stories and knowledge within reach for everyone.

As we celebrate 20 years of Playaway audiobooks, we are reminded that our best ideas come from listening. That is as true today as it was when libraries first asked for our format. Looking ahead, we will keep listening, keep innovating, and keep building solutions that help you serve your communities.

On behalf of the entire team, thank you for the trust you place in us. I am honored to serve in this role and excited for what we can accomplish together.

Here’s to the next chapter, where every library, every school, and every learner has the tools they need to thrive.
